Meet the Rudder Financial Team

I grew up just outside St. Paul, Minnesota, and by sixteen I knew I wanted to be a trader. After college I started at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange as a pit reporter, worked my way onto the trading floor, and eventually became a floor broker executing trades for clients around the world. Soon after, I stepped into the soybean options pit in Chicago and began trading on my own.

Those were incredible years, but eventually I wanted more than market success. I wanted stories to tell. At twenty-nine, without ever having sailed before, my wife and I set off from Florida aboard a 35-foot catamaran and spent the next four years sailing around the world. And then we never stopped.

Over the following decades our adventures continued across oceans (four boats) and continents (vans and RVs). Along the way I traded options, wrote books, built businesses, raised a family, and documented it all through Bumfuzzle.com. Those experiences shaped how I think about risk, independence, and what truly matters.

What I learned is simple. Not everyone wants to live inside the financial system every day, and they shouldn’t have to. Most people have big dreams but lack someone who understands both the practical realities and the possibilities ahead.

That is why I built Rudder Financial.
